Carvers Deli & Barbecue is locally owned and managed by Chip and Barb Powers of State College. Conveniently located on N. Atherton St. in the Wal-Mart Plaza, Carvers Deli & Barbecue has delicious homemade food that you can smell as you walk through the door. Their unique menu will have your mouth watering while deciding whether to order a delicious sandwich or the traditionally low and slow cooked barbecue.
Chip and Barb had a vision of opening a quick service barbecue restaurant in State College and realized that to be successful their menu needed to go beyond the tender and juicy hickory smoked pulled pork cooked for fourteen and a half hours, the brisket that melts in your mouth after being cooked for fifteen hours with hickory wood, tender succulent ribs slow smoked with hickory wood and the super moist apple wood smoked chicken, all served with a choice of four in house made barbecue sauces. So they took over a sandwich shop and revamped the menu to include deli meats, most of which are cooked in house to guarantee freshness. They also renovated the atmosphere to create an inviting environment to relax and enjoy great food.
The comprehensive menu makes the selection process difficult for customers, especially with the delicious smell of barbecue cooking, sauces simmering, deli meats slow roasting and homemade soups stewing. Choose your favorite barbecue or one of the fabulous sandwiches on the menu. If you have a craving for a particular sandwich, you can build your own creation from the list of fresh ingredients. Customers also have their choice of a homemade side to accompany their order. Their coleslaw, macaroni and cheese, baked beans and potato salad have been proclaimed the best in the area!
