Winter’s Here—Get Out There!
For a few weeks each year, Happy Valley becomes Snowy Valley. That time is now!
There are so many options in the State College area to enjoy the outdoors, from world-class skiing,
skating on outdoor and indoor rinks, and sledding at night. Here are the details:
Tussey Mountain—the second most famous mountain in Happy Valley is ready for skiing, tubing, and
snowboarding. Seven trails and five lifts are open to skiers with either a season pass or daily ticket.
Adventurous types can tackle a variety of boxes, rails, pipes and jumps. Tussey also offers lessons for
beginners and experienced skiers. Snow tubing enthusiasts will love the tubing lift that leads to several
1,000-foot tubing lanes. For lift prices and to check on operating hours, visit www.tusseymountain.com
Penn State Ice Pavilion—in addition to providing home ice for the busy Penn State men’s and women’s ice hockey teams, the Ice Pavilion also opens its doors for public skating sessions and skate rentals. For January’s schedule, visit here for more information or call 865-4102.Village Ice Rink—nestled in Blue Spring Park along Wagner Street in Boalsburg, the Village Ice Rink is open for free ice skating. Since this is natural ice, conditions must be just right for skating. Call the CRPR Ice Line at 234-7146 for current rink conditions.
Slab Cabin—the only sledding hill in the state that has its own designated lights, Slab Cabin is arguably
the best sledding hill in the region. Located near Lemont at 316 Elmwood Street, the lights come on
from 5:00-11:00pm., but the sledding starts earlier in the day. The slope is open as conditions permit.
