State College, PA, Penn State and Happy Valley Events Calendar

UNIVERSITY PARK— Oct. 17, 2012 — Thanksgiving will be happening a little early this year, thanks to Fall Fling, which will occur from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Friday, November 9, 2012 at the Bellefonte YMCA. Registration will occur at the event and is free for members. The cost for non-members is $8 per person. The event is open to the community.

Fall Fling is an event being organized, planned and implemented by Penn State Recreation, Park and Tourism Management 356 students in collaboration with the Bellefonte YMCA. The event will feature a variety of interactive activities, arts and crafts, a raffle and food. All activities will reflect the Thanksgiving/fall theme.

In spirit of the “giving season,” attendees are strongly urged to bring at least one can of food to be donated to the FaithCentre, a local charity. Participants should wear sneakers and are encouraged to bring their swimming gear in order to take part in a special activity.

The Penn State Department of Recreation, Park, and Tourism Management (RPTM) is one of the most well-respected programs of its kind in the nation. Its programs prepare students for supervisory and administrative positions with park systems, environmental centers, commercial recreation and tourism agencies, golf courses, hospitals and assisted living facilities, private voluntary agencies, schools and colleges, and other commercial, nonprofit, and public organizations that provide recreation and leisure services.
