Season of Giving
It’s the Season of Giving! HappyValley.com, Affinity Connection, Newsradio 103, and Moneytalk 1390 have joined to help give the gift of financial support to some of the Centre Region’s nonprofit organizations and associations. The Season of Giving campaign, which continues through New Year's Day, highlights participating charitable groups, their missions, and their needs. Donors can learn more about the organizations below, along with information on how to make a gift online or through the mail.
Annie Halenbake Ross Library
Annie Halenbake Ross Library on Lock Haven’s Main Street maintains a large collection of materials and provides services that educate and entertain residents of Clinton County towards the goal of lifelong learning. Donation examples of $25 will purchase a children’s book while $50 will purchase an unabridged book on CD.
Bald Eagle Area SD Eagle Ambassadors
The Eagle Ambassadors, Inc., provides for the Bald Eagle Area School district by engaging the district’s alumni and friends in a culture of support. Incorporated in 2003 as a vehicle to help finance academics, arts, and athletics, the Eagle Ambassadors provide a challenging and enriching educational experience that maximizes the learning potential for every student.
Bellefonte Soccer Association

BSA provides a fun and safe environment for children from Benner Township, Marion Township, Spring Township, Walker Township, and the borough of Bellefonte to learn, practice, and compete in travel and recreational soccer. Gifts will help reduce the costs for families so children can learn valuable life lessons.
Centre County Farmland Trust

The CCFT exists to preserve farmland and open space in Centre County by encouraging land owners to donate a conservation easement on their property, which ensures in perpetuity that the property will not be developed. Membership donations enable the CCFT to cover the costs of legal work, surveying, documentation, photographs, and inspections required to create a conservation easement.

Centre County Library & Historical Museum
Centre County Library and Historical Museum is a free community destination providing books, information, and technology resources to preserve our heritage and promote a lifetime of reading and learning. Contributions will provide high-quality children’s programming, access to free technology, information and community spaces, and the preservation and accumulation of library materials.
Centre County PAWS
Centre County PAWS is a non-euthanasia, volunteer-enabled organization dedicated to the promotion of animal welfare and safety. They are committed to finding forever homes for cats and dogs, educating citizens on responsible pet ownership, and ending pet overpopulation. Donations of $75 can go toward the spay/neuter program while $15 will help microchip an animal.
The Central Region Emergency Strike Team (CREST) Search and Rescue
CREST is dedicated to providing professional search and rescue services and disaster support response to the communities of Central Pennsylvania and other surrounding areas. The group also assists emergency services in Centre County and educates the public on disaster preparedness. Contributions will help purchase water rescue gear, uniforms, training, and K-9 equipment.
Centre Volunteers in Medicine
CVIM serves and advocates for medically underserved residents of Centre County by providing medical and dental care, case management, and necessary medications at no cost. Services are offered to individuals who have no other access to health care and whose household income is at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty level.
Global Connections
As a United Way member agency, Global Connections brings together people of diverse national origins to foster intercultural understanding, to promote awareness of the roles as citizens in the wider global community, and to facilitate partnerships and resources that enrich the vitality and diversity of the Centre Region. Contributions support local education, translation services, and language materials.
Howard Volunteer Fire Company
The Howard Volunteer Fire Company provides safety education and emergency medical, accident, and fire services to Marion, Howard, Curtain, and Liberty Townships and Howard Borough with mutual aide to Beech Creek, Blanchard, Milesburg, Walker Township, Nittany Valley, and Bellefonte Fire companies. Donations will be used to support the purchase of a new tanker and other emergency services.
Logan Fire Company No. 1
Established in 1870, the Logan Fire Company serves and protects Bellefonte and the surrounding areas. As equipment and training costs rise, the firehouse relies on local charitable support and proceeds from their annual carnival to outfit its volunteer team of firefighters. Donations will support training, equipment, supplies, and gear.
Mifflin County Library

The Mifflin County Library provides materials and services to help county residents meet their educational, personal, and recreational needs. Special emphasis is placed on stimulating young children’s interests and appreciation for reading and learning while providing popular materials for patrons of all ages. Donations will provide for an online database, eBooks, and eAudio books.
Mount Nittany Conservancy
The Mount Nittany Conservancy’s goal is to acquire and conserve lands on and around Mount Nittany. To benefit the public, the group practices conservation, protection, and management of these lands as historic, scenic, recreational, and environmental resources. All funds go towards the conservation and preservation of Mount Nittany.
Nittany Valley Symphony
The Nittany Valley Symphony provides the community with local concerts while promoting a collaborative spirit between musicians and audiences that recognizes music as cultural wellspring. NVS is also an opportunity for members of the community to participate and perform in a permanent symphony. Donations will help pay musicians and defray music and venue costs.
Penn State Rugby Alumni Club
The Penn State Rugby Alumni Club provide financial and administrative resources to the men's and women's rugby clubs at Penn State, which relies nearly exclusively on the alumni to raise money for the team. Contributions will help provide equipment, jerseys, training and competition opportunities and improvements to the field.
Salvation Army of Centre County
The Salvation Army of Centre County is part of an international movement within the Christian Church to provide programs and basic human services to those in need through an example of faith in action. Donations will provide local children and their families with toys, clothing, and meals for Christmas.
Schlow Centre Region Library
Schlow Centre Region Library shares the joy of reading and the power of information with members of the community in a welcoming, convenient, and responsive manner. Funds will be used to maintain open hours and library services in 2013. Sample gifts include $25 to purchase a new print bestseller or $50 to provide an eBook.
State College Area High School Alumni Association
With the goal of providing lifelong connections for Little Lions, the State College Area High School Alumni Association facilitates communication among alumni and create a link back home for its 33,000-plus members. Donations will help support hard-copy mailing and additional website features.
State College Meals on Wheels
State College Area Meals on Wheels prepares and delivers more than 43,000 nutritious meals each year to homebound persons in the Centre Region, allowing them to maintain their quality of life and independence. A $25 donation provides a week of meals for a client.
The State Theatre
The State Theatre is a community-owned nonprofit venue for artists and audiences to experience, appreciate, and embrace the transformational power of the performing arts. A donation to The State Theatre gives local artists and arts organizations the opportunity to use this space to create and experience memorable performances.
Voices of Central PA
Voices is a non-profit organization that produces a monthly newsmagazine focusing on investigative journalism on regional and local interest news that gives voice to the voiceless and informs the public of Central Pennsylvania. Contributions help with costs of printing the newspaper, keeping the community connected and informed.
