Trace McSorley Named Starting Quarterback

Penn State head coach James Franklin has named redshirt sophomore Trace McSorley the starting quarterback for the Nittany Lions' season. McSorley played in seven games last season and threw his first career touchdown pass in the TaxSlayer Bowl against Georgia. McSorley spoke to the media after practice Aug. 24, discussing his reaction and his perspective on earning the starting job.

Shedding nickname, Sickels ready to seize opportunity

UNIVERSITY PARK — Garrett Sickels figured it was time to shed his nickname. And add some muscle at the same time.

The Penn State junior defensive end used to eat any and everything he wanted. And speaking recently, he said that he “left some stuff” on the field last season, when he was just a half-second away from being the disruptive force that oftentimes his teammates were.

After spring ball, Sickels knew it was time for a change.

New season. New approach. And new physical build.

Going Green: Local Distillery Earns Environmental Distinction

Kevin Lloyd watches as whiskey barrels that look like they might burst at the rivets are loaded into Big Spring Spirits’ warehouse in Bellefonte: 141 in total.

Lloyd, co-owner and the distillery’s production manager, says they’ll have to use an offsite facility to store barrels eventually. For now, the red brick building that was originally part of the Pennsylvania Match Company, does a fine job of storing batches, housing the equipment to make it, and providing space for a classy tasting room complete with a long bar, comfy chairs, and a swordfish on the wall.
